The Stamford Museum & Nature Center

The Stamford Museum & Nature Center is a nature, history, art, and agricultural sciences museum located in the woods of North Stamford, CT. It was founded in 1936 by Dr. G.R.R. Hertzberg who wanted to provide families and children with a peaceful sanctuary where they could learn about history, art, astronomy, agricultural sciences, and the natural world.

Today, the property of the Stamford Museum & Nature Center covers over a hundred acres and includes a number of facilities, from a four-story observatory with a research telescope to an interactive nature center and a large working farm. The museum and gallery are housed in a beautiful Tudor-style building built by Perry Barker in the late 1920s. Among the most notable exhibits from the Museum’s permanent collection are works by Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Reuben Nakian, Gutzon Borglum, and also a whole range of outdoor sculptures and original totem poles. Besides, the Stamford Museum & Nature Center has an otter pond, 80 acres of outdoor trails, and a special playground where children can experience animals’ perspective on nature. It is indeed a unique place that you should definitely visit at your first opportunity!
