The PMA Welcomes Visitors to Celebrate Women’s History Month

The Philadelphia Museum of Art launches specialized programming and events dedicated to the celebration of Women’s History Month 2025.

Each month, the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA) takes part in the Heritage Month Celebrations, each of which pays tribute to a specific part of the US population. As Black History Month has just ended, the entity joins the American community in the celebration of Women’s History Month. The Museum has developed a versatile program of entertainment and art-related events that are aimed to highlight the unique role of women. Here is an account of events and programs scheduled at the PMA for this period.

Programming of the Women’s History Month Celebration

The PMA’s curators have scheduled a large-scale celebration for March 14, 2025, which will invite the visitors to indulge in art-making and listen to enchanting music. The featured artist of the evening is Qiara Riley, a well-known multidisciplinary artist located in Philadelphia. Riley will hold a monoprinting activity, allowing every guest to create their own masterpiece in the style of Jet magazine’s Beauty of the Week column. The visitors will also be treated to exquisite Argentinian bakery and restaurant food from Jezabel’s, served under the lounge beats of Foxy Nora.

Family Festival at the PMA

The Women’s History Month celebration at the PMA started last weekend with a monthly themed Family Festival. March 2, 2025, welcomed interested audiences and the Philadelphia community at the Art Kids Studio where children were taught to create art with sandpaper and pastels. The Stories Around the Kitchen Table, also arranged by Qiaira Riley, let the visitors cook up recipe cards and share heartwarming stories about family traditions. The gallery tour held on that day was supplemented by interactive readings of children’s books with Wanda Gag’s illustrations.

Events to Explore Women’s Contribution to Art

Many other art-related events are scheduled this March to present women’s contributions to art and the art community from various perspectives. Art lovers can join the guided exploration of the PMA’s collection with a special focus on artworks created by women. It’s also possible to attend the lecture by Cathy Hall-van den Elsen about the milestones of Luisa Roldán’s career and recognition in the Spanish and international art scene. The sculptural legacy by Roldán, though attaining popularity during her lifetime, was forgotten for almost three centuries, getting back to the front stage of sculpture in the second half of the 20th century.
