On July 1, Culturally Arts Collective opened a new digital art exhibition that runs at the Milostka Center for Exhibitions through September 30, 2025. This time, it is a solo exhibition by the New York-based Shenzhen-origin artist Hazel Chen, titled “Boundaries of Being.” Here is a glimpse of the artist’s bio, the exhibition’s major highlights, and a recap on Culturally Arts Collective’s mission and activities.

About Hazel Chen

Hazel Chen, aka Qixin Chen, was raised in Shenzhen under the influence of Chinese collectivism and social power dynamics. Currently working in New York, the artist focuses much of her art on the exploration of those subtle power dynamics and the multi-layered interplay of power within social norms.

Chen is known for her ability to transform large spaces into immersive art performances, welcoming art lovers to a thought-provoking self-exploration through the prism of personal conflict with society. She is a holder of numerous awards, including the Honorable Mention Award from TERAVARNA (Los Angeles, CA) and Special Recognition from Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery (Santa Fe, NM).

The Philosophy Behind “Boundaries of Being”

Hazel Chen’s “Boundaries of Being” exhibition, presented by Culturally Arts Collective, is dedicated to the theme of spiritual dilemmas facing people in contemporary society. It is curated by Erick Rivers and Abigail Bruno and organized with the assistance of Isabell Sliwinski, who joined forces to share the artist’s deeply personal exploration of survival, identity, and institutional systems as perceived by human beings.

The exhibition features five works, each of which offers a unique glimpse of the human subconscious and illustrates the intricate balance between existence and absence. Chen’s art is a one-of-a-kind spectacle that combines spatial installations with light experiments infused with elements of poetic storytelling. United together, these works invite visitors to an honest exploration of their identities and ways of being.
