Finding beauty in mundane things — isn’t that what art is all about? Laundry might not be the first thing that comes to mind when artistic self-expression is concerned. However, that does not mean there is no way for bed sheets, clothes, and clothespins to be used to make artwork. Helga Stentzel, a world-acclaimed artist from London, sees everyday objects and the world around her as art materials and canvases. If you are lucky to visit SCOPE Art Show 2023, don’t miss the works by this multi-talented artist at Booth A015.

It is not a coincidence that clothing is featured so heavily in Stenzel’s artwork. Before becoming a full-time artist, she used to run a children’s clothing business. Today, she has group and solo shows and luxury brand collaborations behind her back, and her skillset ranges from creative and product photography and videography to illustration and mural design. Apart from photography series featuring clotheslines that resemble animals and portraits made from laundry, Helga Stentzel also has projects focused on food, including hyper-realistic sculptures that put a whimsical twist on regular produce. Her attention to detail and multi-disciplinary approach helped her earn the “Food Art Creator of the Year” award in 2020.

At SCOPE Art Show 2023, Helga Stentzel presented her notable Clothes Line Animals series, featuring limited edition prints depicting a camel, a cow, a zebra, and other animals. Each animal is made from carefully selected pieces of clothing, hung on a clothesline in front of a picturesque background. The artist masterfully combines the mundanity of laundry with the gorgeous sceneries of each animal’s natural habitat, telling a story, each with its unique personality.

By breathing life into inanimate objects, Stentzel encourages the audience to see their environment as a canvas for creativity and explore their artistic potential. Thus, things we normally see as boring chores, like cooking or doing laundry, become a source of enrichment and nourishment for our minds and souls. Helga Stentzel says she is constantly inspired by the “playful similarities” she notices in her surroundings.

At Fine Art Shippers, we highly recommend visiting SCOPE Art Show 2023 and Booth A015, in particular, to enjoy Helga Stentzel’s photography art and maybe buy a piece of it for your own collection.
