The fourth edition of Platform 101’s series of events dedicated to glitch art opened last week at E1 Art Gallery in Tehran, Iran. The exhibition titled “Geometry of Creation: Analysis of Anti-Rhythmic Structures” has attracted much interest both on the part of Iranian and international video artists and on the part of grateful, active audiences visiting the venue to explore contemporary glitch art by 44 artists from around the world.
“Geometry of Creation” has already been dubbed as the largest video art exhibition ever held in Tehran. It serves the organization’s official mission to cultivate and promote digital art in Iran by fostering the domestic art production market and expanding the international dialog with digital artists in all corners of the globe. The main emphasis in the 2024 show is on glitch and fractal art, with the black-and-white color palette dominating the artists’ choices.
Behind the Scenes of “Geometry of Creation”
Curators Mohammad Ali Famori and Ramin Saeidian have shared that this year’s exhibition is a lengthy project with specific curatorial complexities, which took two years to bring to life. Famori and Saeidian have placed an explicit emphasis on the visual representation of fractals in the featured works, claiming that this complex geometric pattern has a firm presence in nature and mathematics. According to them, the use of fractals in digital art symbolizes an artist’s search for harmony and balance in the chaotic world.
An even more interesting artistic dimension comes from fractal disruption and the observation of fractal repeating patterns arising from defragmentation. This all makes the ongoing exhibition an exciting journey of discovery both for the participating artists and for the visitors.
Mohammad Ali Famori and Ramin Saeidian explain the black-and-white color choice by the artists’ fascination with the exploration of complex geometric forms in the absence of distractive decorative elements. In their opinion, the strict and rigid esthetics of black-and-white compositions make it easier to get to the core essence of art.
