Shipping large-sized sculptures is a responsible task that not every delivery service provider can cope with. Such objects often weigh a lot and require the concerted effort of art handlers to be moved without damage. However, seasoned professionals who know the ins and outs of packaging and transporting sculptures can deliver flawless art transport services.
This is what the team of Fine Art Shippers has recently accomplished on the order of McHugh Gallery, which contacted us with a request to package and ship the stainless-steel bunny sculpture “Mykonos” by Hunt Slonem. Slonem is an immensely popular American neo-Expressionist painter and sculptor, drawing inspiration from nature and his collection of 60 pet birds. Signature images of butterflies, bunnies, and tropical birds distinguish the artist’s style. Slonem’s paintings and sculptures are currently on display in 250+ museums and galleries across the globe. In New York, his works are featured at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.
Art Transport Services for McHugh Gallery
“Mykonos” is a large-sized powder-coated bunny sculpture made of stainless steel. It features one of the signature themes of Slonem’s creative activity – the blue bunny. The image first appeared in Slonem’s so-called “Rabbit paintings” in the early 1980s, which the artist associated with his birth in the year of the Rabbit.
The “Mykonos” sculpture was located in New York and needed to be shipped to Colorado. The sculpture’s dimensions are 72 x 20 x 72H inches, making it a rather challenging item in terms of shipping. Yet, our team coped with the task by performing comprehensive on-site packaging to prevent bumps, chips, and surface scratches during the transportation process. The sculpture was further loaded onto the Fine Art Shippers’ art shuttle, which specializes in safe art deliveries across the country, and delivered to its final destination, McHugh Gallery in Aspen, CO.
