Mitchell Schorr is a prominent mural painter who has become a guiding force among the urban artists of our time. From his iconic Da Race murals to rock-and-roll drawings to bold luminous abstractions, everything he creates is connected, and everything is filled with energy and power. In recent years, the renowned street artist has had exhibitions in London, Rome, Paris, Hong Kong, and at Art Basel Miami Beach, and now he is back in New York to enliven the pandemic-depressed streets of his beloved city.
“I wanted to bring color and energy back to the city, and try to make people feel like kids again – smiling, caring for each other,” Mitchell Schorr said last summer. This is what he has been doing in New York since then, bringing life back to the city that became a ghost town in the times of the COVID-19 pandemic and BLM protests.
Works by Mitchell Schorr have been exhibited at many notable exhibitions and venues around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art during “Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll” 2019 exhibition, the renowned Galerie Mourlot in New York, and Rockefeller Center where Schorr painted Da Race to NYC live for Ferrari’s 70th anniversary in 2017. One of his paintings – Ice Cream Truck – is in the permanent collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts. Besides, the artist was commissioned to paint Da Race on the Riverfront and GM’s Headquarters at the Renaissance Center in Detroit.
