Jason Jacques Gallery at Design Miami/ Basel 2019

Jason Jacques Gallery

The Art Basel week is in full swing with thousands of people in the cultural capital of Switzerland for the big event! Art Basel, LISTE Art Fair, VOLTA Basel, and many other international art fairs showcase numerous amazing art pieces by both contemporary and historic artists. Basel is also home to Design Miami/ Basel, an important design show that runs from June 11 to June 16, bringing together the most influential designers, curators, gallerists, collectors, and critics from around the world. At Fine Art Shippers, we were lucky to visit this fantastic design event several days ago, and it was a very rewarding experience. We particularly loved the presentation of the NYC-based Jason Jacques Gallery that has an art installation at Design at Large exhibition platform.

Jason Jacques Gallery is one of the leading galleries in New York, specializing in contemporary design and ceramic art and also the preeminent purveyor of European pottery of the late 19th – early 20th century. The gallery represents many artists from around the world, including the incredibly talented Finnish ceramic sculptor Kim Simonsson, whose works are installed at this year’s edition of Design Miami/ Basel.

Jason Jacques Gallery has brought to Basel an absolutely amazing series of mixed media artworks by Kim Simonsson. The installation titled “Moss Tower” is comprised of handmade sculptures inspired by Nordic fairytales and fables. The figures are distinguished by their moss-like texture, which is a result of the very interesting technique that combines paint, stoneware, and green nylon fiber. They are presented on special tiers of metal scaffolding, forming a fabulous world with a reference to the magical forests of Finland.
