Contemporary art takes many forms, and cutting-edge creatives often experiment with bringing them together to achieve unprecedented effects. This is exactly what Platform 101, a non-profit association of glitch art enthusiasts and intellectuals, has achieved with its November exhibition “Sonic Landscapes: Fractal Editions.” The event held at Dayhim Art Society (DAS) in Tehran, Iran, brought together contemporary music and glitch art, welcoming the visitors to explore the hidden links between the auditory and the visual at the subconscious level.
Philosophy Behind “Sonic Landscapes: Fractal Editions”
The series of events organized by Platform 101 in partnership with innovative musicians took place on November 8, 15, and 22 – a sequence of three Fridays featuring various collaborations and audiovisual approaches. Four musicians – Vamegh, Parsa Shomali, Farbod Hamedi (Noise Space), and Alireza Heydari (Bitsy) – teamed up with the visual artist Arash Masoom to experiment with the nuances of sound and visual effects. A combination of energetic techno and industrial beats with fractal esthetics resulted in a compelling, impactful visual narrative.
Artworks presented at the exhibition welcomed the audience to explore and reinterpret the popular mythological deities: Nike, Hozah, Ganesha, and the Mithraic lion-headed deity. Each of these images was reinterpreted with a focus on the intricate relationship between victory and failure and invited a thought-provoking reflection on the unending cycle of cultural renewal. The central theme in the artistic exploration was the unique fractal geometry and the interplay of chaos and order it embodies.
The visitors were treated to a variety of experimental soundscapes, combined with glitch and noise elements, to see the motifs from methodology, astronomy, and history fusing into a single creative narrative. Due to such rich symbolic and creative content, the series offered an exquisite sensory journey to all visitors, encouraging multi-level introspection and redefining the boundaries of digital art.
The Mission of Platform 101
Apart from stepping into the untrodden paths of artistic fusion, “Sonic Landscapes: Fractal Editions” supported the mission of Platform 101, which focuses on the promotion of digital art in Iran and beyond and encourages interdisciplinary creation. Platform 101 also found solid support in the face of DAS, an incubator for artists, galleries, and art enthusiasts committed to artistic progress. This way, the partnership of the institution and DAS created unprecedented opportunities for emerging digital artists and elevated their digital and interdisciplinary art visibility to a new level.
