Meet the Artist
Indra Persad Milowe was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago but later moved to the USA, where she is currently working in her studio in Salem, Massachusetts. However, the main focus of Milowe’s visual language is still her authentic legacy and culture. The artist dedicates many paintings to the exploration and reinterpretation of her childhood memories of growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, a multicultural island country with a vibrant community.
Throughout her life, Indra Persad Milowe has undertaken many trips to various parts of the world to explore local customs and traditions, which is reflected in her art. Many of her works are dedicated to cultural expression and the celebration of diversity, with a focus on cultural pride. The artist also draws inspiration from the creative legacy of women artists, such as Georgia O’Keefe, Frida Kahlo, and Yayoi Kusama, combining traditional art forms and symbols in her art. Viewers can often see the depictions of local cultural festivals, authentic colorful patterns of Hindu communities, and natural materials in her paintings.
