Contemporary Talents of Japan at Ronin Gallery

Founded in 1975, Ronin Gallery is now the leading gallery of Japanese contemporary and modern art in New York City. Featuring a unique selection of works by many talented artists, it is well known among both collectors and connoisseurs of East Asia’s art. Besides, Ronin Gallery is home to America’s largest private collection of Japanese prints from the 17th – 21st centuries, many of which are available for sale.

At Fine Art Shippers, we do enjoy visiting Ronin Gallery at every opportunity. Moreover, in addition to the exceptional art pieces and specially curated exhibitions of Japanese art, this amazing art gallery is known for its unique Ronin | Globus Artist-in-Residence Program, which gives contemporary Japanese artists a fantastic opportunity to work and exhibit their works in NYC for several weeks. Plus, the winner receives a cash stipend and a round-trip ticket between New York and Tokyo.

This year’s edition of Ronin | Globus Artist-in-Residence Program is dedicated to “kacho fugetsu,” which refers to the beauties of flora and fauna. This wonderful Japanese tradition of depicting nature in different seasons has a very long history and now is perfectly represented in works by many contemporary artists. The winner of Ronin | Globus Artist-in-Residence Program 2018 is Asako Iwasawa, a Japanese artist born and raised in Downtown Tokyo. Her gorgeous paintings are distinguished by colors of nature, insects, and plants presented in very unusual, mysterious shapes, thus treading the boundary between the landscape and the viewer’s imagination.

The exhibition of Asako Iwasawa, titled “Contemporary Talents of Japan: Kacho Fugetsu,” will run at Ronin Gallery from July 12 through August 11. Fine Art Shippers will definitely visit it, and we highly recommend that you do the same!
