How often do you see two artists working together as one, creating in complete unity, and, yet, each doing their own unique thing? One of the best parts of working closely with artists and art institutions is getting to connect with absolutely extraordinary people. Recently, Fine Art Shippers had the pleasure of meeting the amazing artist duo SOLONOI at Artexpo New York 2024. We were incredibly impressed with the live art performance these two artists brought to the art fair, and we cannot wait to tell you more about SOLONOI and their art.
Artexpo New York 2024: Fine Art Shippers Meets the Artist Duo SOLONOI
SOLONOI is a collective made up of two established Montreal-based artists. For their joined project, Emile Vidmar, aka “Em,” and Pascal Vaillancourt, aka “Paco,” adopted the artistic personas of “THE CHEMIST” and “MR. PINK” respectively. While the orange jumpsuits and the handcuffs that bind them to each other at every art show they go to are part of the act, the rebellious passion for experimentation and boundless self-expression stays with them even when they are out of character. Outside of SOLONOI, Emile Vidmar has a thriving career in mural painting, and Pascal Vaillancourt is an experienced stencil artist.
SOLONOI is a product of collaborative projects, which was born over three years ago when Em and Paco started exhibiting their works together. Later, they began holding live art performances where they created artworks from scratch in front of the captivated audience.
SOLONOI’s approach to collaborative art-making is especially noteworthy. They succeed at creating a cohesive work of art while working on two separate canvases that shine the unique perspective of each artist. Drawing on their backgrounds and experiences, Em and Paco’s styles contrast while complimenting one another at the same time.
At Artexpo New York 2024, SOLONOI brought their vision informed by street art into the gallery space. Their live performance, during which they created an entirely new work of art, became one of the brightest highlights of the show.
It was a true pleasure to get to meet SOLONOI and see their powerful artwork in person. Fine Art Shippers is looking forward to the duo’s next projects and wishes the artists the best of luck on their future artistic adventures.
