Fall is a fruitful season for art events in Abu Dhabi. One of them is a new exhibition, titled “Imperial Silhouettes: Shadows of Sovereignty,” at Rizq Art Gallery, launched by Rizq Art Initiative (RAi) and curated by Premish Achari. The exhibition will be on display from November 17, 2024, to January 30, 2025. The institution also arranges an exclusive viewing of the exhibition, followed by a private standing lunch, on November 20.
The Private Standing Lunch at Rizq Art Gallery
An exclusive viewing day, followed by a private standing lunch, is organized for a narrow circle of patrons and collectors and serves as a unique opportunity for all attendees to engage in meaningful discussions and business networking. The event welcomes established art collectors and art business professionals in a warm, private atmosphere of productive partnership and art appreciation. The Fine Art Shippers team is also invited to this event and will be honored to attend.
“Imperial Silhouettes: Shadows of Sovereignty”
“Imperial Silhouettes: Shadows of Sovereignty” has unified many established artists around the topic of the region’s oppressive colonial past and their states’ path to liberation. The collection of artworks chosen for this exhibition approaches the lasting impacts of imperialism in the world and examines the formerly colonized nations’ quest for self-rule and freedom.
The featured artists come from all parts of the world, bringing to attention their motherlands’ colonial issues and struggles. The goal of “Imperial Silhouettes” is to deconstruct the traditional notions of power and privilege in contemporary society by amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and making their experiences visible.
The lineup of the exhibition includes Sudharshan Shetty from India, Cyan Dayritt (a Philippines-born artist currently residing and working in Berlin), Sujay Shah (Kenya/USA), and Bibi Hajra (Pakistan), among others. The exhibition’s unique discourse welcomes the audiences to subvert the traditional notions of power and control while simultaneously offering a glimpse at the artistic interpretations of the intersections of culture and identity with broader global political issues.
