The Fine Art Shippers team is an avid appreciator of modern and contemporary art, keeping a close eye on all emerging and established art projects across the USA. In this article, we’d like to share the news from the talented artist Ashley January and Art + Practice, a private non-profit foundation headquartered in Los Angeles. The organization supports local foster youth and children from marginalized and displaced communities with housing, case management services, and art education. It also holds moderated artist talks, lectures, workshops, and art exhibitions.
About Art + Practice
Art + Practice (A+P) is a unique helping space that combines dedication to art education and programming with important social work for local populations in need. Its partnership with First Place for Youth and Nest Global gives displaced and foster children access to free social services. A+P also collaborates with the California African American Museum to give its students and members free access to museum art.
A+P’s versatile educational and art programming activities are held on a 20,000-square-foot campus space. It includes the exhibition space for museum-curated art shows, the public program space for educational and networking activities during the exhibitions, and housing facilities for transition youth aged from 18 to 24 years old.
Giving You the Best That I Got
On October 11, A+P opened a new exhibition titled “Giving you the best that I got,” which is available for viewing through March 7, 2026. The exhibition offers an emotionally touching journey through the experiences of Black motherhood, inviting visitors to reimagine Black mothers’ health narratives and the struggles of power and pressure in their lives. “Giving you the best that I got” features works by Ashley January, Carrie Mae Weems, Lex Marie, Ferrari Sheppard, Sydney Vernon, Shaniqwa Jarvis, Lanise Howard, Karon Davis, and Harmonia Rosales, among other artists.
Delivering Paintings by Ashley January to the Exhibition
Fine Art Shippers was honored to contribute to the “Giving you the best that I got” exhibition by delivering paintings by Ashley January from Chicago to the event in Los Angeles. Ashley January is a talented African American artist specializing in the topics of Black maternal morbidity and mortality. A person with a traumatic pregnancy experience, January uses painting and multimedia art to attract public attention to the problems of adverse birth outcomes and their far-reaching health effects. She supports efforts in raising awareness, advancing research, and the eradication of avoidable maternal and infant traumas and deaths.
“Giving you the best that I got” is co-presented by Art + Practice and the California African American Museum as part of their 5-year collaboration. It is curated by Dominique Clayton, an art dealer, curator, and founder of the eponymous gallery.
