Three Monet Paintings for the Price of Two

The story began last year when Jonathan Green, one of the famous art collectors, art dealer, and director of the Richard Green Gallery in London, bought two magnificent paintings by Claude Monet at an auction in Paris. Some time later he invited Jane McCausland, a leading paper conservator, to remove the tape. What a surprise! To everyone’s admiration, another Monet masterpiece was hidden under the mount of one of the rare sky pastels. In this way, Jonathan Green had unknowingly bought three amazing Claude Monet pastels for the price of two!

According to “The Guardian”, the gallery owner and the restorer discovered this sensational finding only recently, and the news spread around the world immediately. But that’s not all! Another interesting fact is that these paintings have an impeccable provenance – they come directly from Claude Monet! The incredibly rear pastels were the artist’s wedding present to his art dealer’s, Paul Durand-Ruel, granddaughter in 1924. All this time, they remained in their family, and only a year ago appeared on the open market.

Two “officially” recorded paintings and the hidden one have been introduced to the public at the fine art fair Masterpiece 2015 that was opened on 25 June in London. These Monet pastels will be sold together for £1.4 million. However, in addition to these paintings you have a chance to get acquainted with masterpieces from over 150 international galleries and museums. The fair will run till July 1.
