Two important events related to one of the leading figures of the Impressionist movement, Edgar Degas, are expected in the next two weeks. The Petaluma Arts Center (California, USA) will open the exhibition “Edgar Degas: the Private Impressionist, Works on Paper by the Artist and his Circle,” and at the same time, the famous Edgar Degas’ ballerina will take centre stage at Sotheby’s Impressionist auction.
The exhibition at the Petaluma Arts Center will be open for visitors from June 20 until July 26, 2015. It will present more than 100 fine art works on paper, including 40 drawings, pastels, prints, and photographs by Edgar Degas from his early days at the Louvre to late in his career. Works on paper by Paul Cézanne, Mary Cassatt, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres will be also included in this fantastic fine art show. Meanwhile, one of the most celebrated sculptures of the modern age, “Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans,” depicting a defiant 14-year-old dancer, will be among the highlights of the next Sotheby’s big Impressionist and Modern art sale. It comes with a £10 – £15 million ($15 – $23 million) estimate. This bronze version of the young ballet dancer was created in 1922. Bidding will take place in London on June 24, 2015.
