Art Installation Tips for Art Collectors

What is art installation? In most cases, art installation means loading a certain interior with different objects that transform the perception of space and reflect the artist’s vision and feelings. On the other hand, the art installation is a process of installing art, which can be sufficiently challenging. Even for passionate art lovers, hanging paintings or installing any other artwork may contribute to a severe headache and emotionally stressful time. Not only should you consider the physical mounting of the piece of art, but you also need to take into account a whole range of other factors, such as the right hanging height and the harmonious positioning of the art piece at the site. If you want to arrange art in your home like a pro, this blog post is for you.

Let’s start with the supplies. So, what supplies do you need?

  • A hammer

A hammer is an exceptionally useful tool that is used for driving items into different kinds of materials. Make sure that you have chosen the appropriate hammer for your particular case – one that is too light or too heavy may be rather dangerous and completely ineffective at the same time.

  • A level

A level, also known as a spirit level or a bubble level, helps find out if certain lines are straight or not. It is made from a small glass tube with some kind of liquid or an air bubble inside. The tube is placed and fixed horizontally in a special block or frame.

  • A measuring tape

A measuring tape is an essential tool for any art collector, art handler, or professional artist. It may come in a wide range of sizes. Keep in mind that for smaller-scale interior projects like artwork installation, shorter tapes are more suitable, whereas longer ones are mostly used when it comes to large-scale projects.

  • Wall hooks

Wall hooks are perfect for hanging most art pieces, such as paintings, fine art prints, and photographs. Opt for only strong ones that can hold the weight of your artworks. Decorative hooks won’t work for this purpose.

1. Keep colors in mind

Every professional interior designer or expert art handler will tell you that colors play a crucial role when it comes to the interior of your room. So, if you want to achieve absolute harmony in your home, consider the colors of the walls to make the perfect background for your art pieces.

2. Find the right location

Deciding on the location for only one painting is fairly simple, but arranging several artworks on a single wall may get a bit more complicated. Paper templates with arrows indicating whether the item is placed vertically or horizontally can be very useful. Attach the templates to the wall (you will need easy-release painter’s tape for this job) and rearrange them until everything looks perfect to you.

3. Mark the wall

Once you have decided where you want to hang your paintings, you should make marks to indicate the location of your art pieces. If you are going to use only one wall hook for each painting, find out the width of the frame, divide it by two, and measure this distance from the marks on the painter’s tape. However, for better stability, it is recommended that you use two or more wall hooks.

4. Create symmetry

The right arrangement of art on the wall is no less significant than the artworks themselves. Whether you are dealing with a large number of photographs or just one tiny art print, you should create symmetry and ensure that each item is centered horizontally between two points. In that way, your room will look more balanced.

Hopefully, these simple yet useful art installation and hanging tips will help you organize art in your home properly and easily.
