The Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany

At Fine Art Shippers, we are proud and happy to be working with many art and design institutions around the world, providing them with professional art handling, art shipping, and art installation services. In this blog post, we want to tell you about one of them – The Vitra Design Museum, a truly amazing European museum featuring a great collection of furniture and interior design.

The Vitra Design Museum

The Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany is one of the leading museums of design in the world. Founded by Rolf Fehlbaum and the Vitra Company in 1989, it is a privately owned museum dedicated to the presentation and research of design, as well as to studying its relationship to everyday culture, art, and architecture.

The Vitra is housed in a sculptural deconstructivist building designed by the Canadian-born American architect Frank Gehry, which is a unique architectural attraction on its own. This distinctive building is used to stage all the major temporary exhibitions while the Museum’s permanent collection is exhibited at the Vitra Schaudepot designed by the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. The permanent collection encompasses approximately 20,000 objects, including 7,000 pieces of furniture, 1,000 lighting objects, and numerous items of design history. Besides, the Vitra features estates of such important design personalities as Alexander Girard and Verner Panton.

At Fine Art Shippers, we are very excited to be working with the Vitra Design Museum! This amazing institution is definitely worth visiting!
